RenixUIX™ Used in Phosphorus Removal from Wastewater Project

Green is not always environmentally friendly or desirable. Raw wastewater in urban treatment plants contains a rich source of nutrients including trace amounts of phosphorous that are the major cause of potentially disastrous environmental problems. This situation is such a concern that phosphorus removal and recovery from wastewater streams is an emerging subject of research with great potential to alleviate the problem and to recover lost value. A great example of a prime potential solution to this problem is the project "Transforming phosphorus from pollutant to resource", a collaboration between the University of Western Ontario and Renix, wh

ere RenixUIX™ was used as the system for phosphorus removal and concentration from waste streams. Project results showed that RenixUIX™ offered excellent tolerance for total suspended solids (TSS), minimal pre-treatment and up to 50% operating cost savings versus traditional methods also complying with Federal and Municipal standards, even with fluctuating phosphorous loads, representing an opportunity for value recovery through pairing with downstream fertilizer production.
